KUWAIT CITY, February 25, 2025 – Kuwait is experiencing an unusually harsh winter, with temperatures plummeting to levels not seen in six decades. A powerful Siberian cold wave has swept across the region, bringing record-breaking lows and causing significant disruption.
Meteorological reports confirm that this February has been exceptionally frigid, with desert areas bearing the brunt of the cold. In locations such as Mutriba and Salmi, official temperatures dropped to -1°C. However, the perceived temperatures, factoring in wind chill, plunged even further, reaching a bone-chilling -8°C in Mutriba and -6°C in Salmi.
Even in Kuwait City, where temperatures are typically milder, residents felt the impact of the cold. The perceived temperature in the capital dipped to near 0°C, while official recordings showed a low of 8°C.
“According to the climate data issued by the Meteorology Department, this is considered one of the coldest February days that Kuwait has experienced in the past 60 years, especially in the desert area,”
