Al-Ojeiri Science Center announced on Sunday that the winter solstice will arrive on December 22.

The winter solstice occurs when the sun reaches its lowest daily peak in the sky, resulting in short days and long nights.

A series of astronomical events including the Geminid meteor shower will occur in the same month, the center said in a statement obtained by Kuwait News Agency.

The event is considered one of the brightest astronomical spectacles, with up to 120 meteors passing by every hour. It becomes visible to the human eye in mid-December when conditions are right, and intensifies by December 14th and 15th.

The center reports that Mercury is furthest from the sun on the fourth day of the month and can be seen in the sky at night.

The conclusion is that the new moon will occur on the 12th of the month and the full moon will occur on December 27th.
