Kuwait’s Ministry of Trade and Industry on Thursday warned of various shady companies attempting to pose as ministry officials over the internet and defraud consumers. The ministry statement said the number of scams targeting citizens and residents has increased as scammers used fake ministry accounts on the internet and social media platforms. The department is monitoring the situation and will use legal means to bring the scammers to justice in cooperation with the Home Office, the statement said, noting that attempts have been made to block fake websites and accounts. It then stressed that citizens and residents should not interact with fake accounts or reply to encrypted messages asking for a one-time password (OTP) or banking information. He said all of the ministry’s services can be found in the Sahel app.
